OPEN ACCESS COLLOQUIUM

by: Ms. Shela Bopape

Open Access Week
Thoko Mayekiso Library and Information Services hosted the Open Access (OA) Colloquium on 31 October 2024. The theme of the event was “Community over Commercialisation”. These agreements help the researchers in getting publishing discounts or waivers of the Article Publishing Charges. The University of Mpumalanga took the lead in inviting prominent speakers
from various organisations to share valuable insights with the university community on the OA publishing model, funding, the role of Generative AI in research, and the importance of researchers’ networks in promoting free information sharing. These discussions aim to enhance scholarly collaboration and build research capacity within the institutions.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Thoko Mayekiso said “In 2019 the institution signed the Berlin Declaration joining the global movement to support Open Access for the benefit of science and society”.
