Circulation service is one of the key library service points with the circulation/ loan desk situated at the ground floor near the main entrance. It provides lending services and facilities to return lending items. Behind the Circulation desk is the Short loan collection and New Arrivals display shelves. UMP LIS is equipped with a self-checkout machine to help users to be self-sufficient in checking out library materials.

Ask a Librarian counter are available at levels 1 and 2 to provide library users with the direction to library materials, advice on the library collection and services, information retrieval and other general library queries.

Overdue & Lost Item Fees
Academic, support staff and students are charged overdue fines and are billed for lost materials. Items that have been overdue for over three months are considered lost. They are billed at the standard replacement cost of the item and will incur R150.00 handling fee per item. Bills will be submitted to the UMP Finance Office for collection if not paid at the end of each academic year.
Loss of Circulation Privileges
Failure to pay for books declared lost will result in the loss of circulation privileges until the account is settled.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) it is a service whereby staff and postgraduate students request material not available in the UMP library collection.
Lost Interlibrary Loan Items
The lending library determines the cost of the lost item and the handling charges. The UMP library user will be billed for costs by the UMP Library on behalf of the lending library. Unpaid bills will be turned over to the UMP Finance Office for collection at the end of each term.
